
Betty Jo DuPont, affectionately known as “Mama,” was born and raised in Plant City. Her life reflected unwavering faith, resilience, perseverance, and a deep commitment to serving others. Throughout her life, she demonstrated determination, compassion, and an enduring dedication to both education and ministry.
Mama’s academic journey began at Midway Academy. Later in life, she made the courageous decision to continue her education through a night school program at Marshall High School, where she proudly earned her diploma. Her story serves as a powerful reminder that it is never too late to pursue your goals and finish what you start.
Mama was deeply rooted in her faith and devoted her life to serving others through ministry, teaching, and worship. Her spiritual foundation began at Bethel Baptist Church during her early years. She later joined St. Luke Church on Easter Sunday, where she remained a faithful and dedicated member for nearly 40 years. She lived out her faith daily through service, leadership, and a heart for people.
